“Sankwestation” is a contemplative emblem, a quiet meditation rendered in circles of shimmering texture. At its center, a graceful bird turns its head backward in the classic gesture of Sankofa—the Ghanaian symbol urging us to return to the past in order to carry its wisdom forward. Its form emerges from a question mark, suggesting that the search for identity, heritage, and clarity is both inquiry and journey.

Behind the bird, the silhouette of Ghana stands like a doorway, framing the creature as though it were a messenger rising from the nation’s collective memory. Surrounding this central image are layered rings of intricate dots and patterns, evoking ripples of time, tradition, and ancestral influence. At the base of the question mark, a single dark droplet anchors the composition, hinting at the weight of history, the moments of sorrow, or the concentrated essence of truth.

In this symbolic piece, the artist invites us to ponder: What must we reclaim? What questions must we ask ourselves as individuals and as a people? “Sankwestation”suggests that the act of remembering is not passive—it is a deliberate turning, a reaching back so that we may move forward with intention, integrity, and renewed vision.
