Photographic Portraits of Jean-Michel Basquiat
Coming in Q1 2026, an exhibition of rare photographic portraits of America's second most successful artists of all time, the late, great Jean-Michel Basquiat.
These photographs were taken by the master portrait photographer Richard Corman, in New York, in 1984. At that time, Basquiat was just 24 years old, and well into his rise from New York graffiti artist to world renowned fine artist. Four years after these photographs were taken, the troubled Basquiat died of a heroin overdose, aged just 27 years old.
Richard Corman is globally recognized as a photographer who is able to capture the spirit and inner lives of his subjects. He has an incredible catalogue of photographs, including portraits of Mohammad Ali, Nelson Mandela, Mike Tyson, Michael Jordon and many more. Corman's photographs of Basquiat are nothing shorty of captivating, drawing the viewer into the unspoken life of the troubled, young genius.
The exhibition represents the first time these amazing photographs have been shown in Africa, and the first time at 36" x 48", anywhere in the world.
Be prepared for an immersive journey into 1980s New York and the life and times of Jean-Michel Basquiat.
