About the event

Our exhibition of rare photographic portraits of the iconic artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, opened on 10 April, 2026.

The Basquiat photographs were taken by master portrait photographer Richard Corman, in New York, in 1984. At that time, Basquiat was just 24 years old, and well into his rise from New York graffiti artist to world renowned fine artist.  Four years after these photographs were taken, the troubled Basquiat died of a heroin overdose, aged just 27 years old.

Richard Corman is globally recognized as a photographer who is able to capture the spirit and inner lives of his subjects.  He has an incredible catalogue of photographs, including portraits of Mohammad Ali, Nelson Mandela, Mike Tyson, Michael Jordon and many more.  Corman's photographs of Basquiat are nothing short of captivating, drawing the viewer into the unspoken life of the troubled, young genius.

The exhibition is ground-breaking in that this is the first…
