In the late 1970s, Basquiat gained attention under the pseudonym “SAMO” (Same Old Shit), collaborating with friend Al Diaz. Their cryptic graffiti messages appeared across Lower Manhattan, blending poetry, philosophy, and social critique, capturing the attention of the city’s creative community.
